Fitting the Engine and Running Gear

The engine stringers are constructed from 10mm marine ply which was then fibre glassed to the base of the boat.  Prior to fixing I cut the holes and slots to allow the engine to slot in.  By fixing the engine and using threaded bolt I  managed to set the distance between the stringers, using my eye to set the centre line.

Once the engine was mounted Leigh Hunnable made some stainless steel locking brackets that secure the engine to the stringers to save it jumping out of the slots.

The pictures above show a forward view picture with the transverse CNC machined engine mounts.  The Hanson swan neck header pipe along with the water cooled mounts are also fitted, this was acquired through Jotika.  The right hand picture shows the vertical post of the bell crank bracket.

The rear running gear was drawn up by myself based on what I have seen at race meetings incorporating the best features and made by Leigh Hunnable (except the original rudder).

The first picture looks backwards, to the front shows a polystyrene mock up of the fuel tank (1 gallon capacity, may be reduced).  The remaining two pictures show the forward handle and the stainless steel strengthening bar below to take the rigors of rough handling.
